Welcome to Dosbarth Elwy
Monday 28th January 2019
Our Falkland Islands Project Day.
Dosbarth Elwy have been taking part in an immersion day of real-life tasks including literacy, numeracy and cooking.
We have learnt about Katie & Sita, and their job with the Royal Air Force protecting the Falkland Islands. Katie is a Corporal with the RAF Police, Sita is her police dog.
We have been researching the Falkland Islands in order to write to Katie using a British Forces Post Office 'bluey' and asking her questions about her work, the environment, weather and what her day is like. As well as writing the blueys, we have been creating a fact file about the Falkland Islands.
We have completed a numeracy task ~ everyday items are extremely expensive in the Falklands. We had a list of items Katie would like us to send and made up 'Goody boxes' which had to contain a variety of items but could not weigh more than 2kg ~ it was a challenge!
Finally, we have been making our own bread ~ measuring ingredients, mixing, kneading, proving, baking our bread AND washing up!
Our bread smells wonderful.
A big welcome back to our new school year. We have been so impressed how quickly the children have settled in and they have all enjoyed exploring their new classrooms and finding out about their new topics (Our class topic letter is above).
This term is going to be extremely busy and we have a variety of new innovative, creative activities planned. We will continue to keep you updated with all these activities through our weekly school newsletter and the diary section on this website.
