Topic this half term:

Our topic this term is 'Archaeology'. Using the Mantle of the Expert approach, Year 3/4 will be time travelling to the Bronze Age;  uncovering a range of artefacts that will help better understand the history of our local area. They will be tasked with writing to the London National Museum requesting the repatriation of The Gold Cape, learn more about life in The Bronze Age, and will even conduct their own dig of the school grounds. When studying Ancient Egypt, they will be studying Egyptologist Howard Carter, conduct a scientific enquiry when mummifying a tomato,  decipher hieroglyphics and create their own Egyptian crowns!

Health and Wellbeing:

Our P.E day is a Friday afternoon and our current unit is Hockey. Outdoor Learning is on a Thursday afternoon where we will be completing lots of activities linked to our Archaeology topic. Our Jigsaw unit is 'Healthy Me'.

Contacting me:

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ring the school office to book an appointment, send a message using our class Seesaw, or by catching me at the school gate at the end of the day. Alternatively, I am always available via email: Hughesm704@hwbcymru.net

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Miss Hughes smiley

13.09.23

We LOVED using Jamboard to film 'Figure Me Out' videos. Once finished, we watched our friends and commented the answer to each number sentence. Very impressive work.

14.09.23

Year 3/4 became nature detectives today and used their observation skills to identify the trees in our natural environment based on their leaves.

21.09.23

Year 3/4 are having a ball diving into our topic of Place Value! We love having practical elements in our Maths lessons, especially when using Uno and Match Attax cards!

22.09.23

We based our Outdoor Learning session around ‘The Lost Words’ this week. Here are just some of the amazing blackout poems created by Year 3/4.

25.09.23

Year 3 loved their first music lesson with Theatr Clwyd! Blossoming Cornet players in the making!

27.09.23

For Wellbeing Wednesday, we decided to take part in some Harry Potter Yoga!

29.09.23

We had the BEST day learning with Mr Underwood! We designed vehicles fit for Polar Exploration, tested our perseverance with lots of challenges and ended the day roasting marshmallows!

04.10.23

Year 3/4 have begun reading ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold and we are already hooked! Over the past few days, we’ve been busy creating our own Bear Island maps with Mrs Underwood. The final pieces are super impressive! We 'tweeted' some examples and even had a response back from Hannah Gold herself! You can find this here: https://twitter.com/MissMHughes_/status/1709624503016325381

05.10.23

We are very proud of our Year 4 Rugby SUPERSTARS. 7 games played, won 5, drew 1 and lost 1. Lots of new skills learnt and confidence gained

05.10.23

For this first term, our Outdoor Learning theme is centred around immersing ourselves in nature. For this weeks task, we have been busy creating nature collages; looking closely at colours, patterns and lines.

18.10.23

We have been developing our understanding of negative numbers using numicon!

19.10.23

After learning more about the impacts of Plastic Pollution through research and reading of 'The Last Bear', Dosbarth Clwyd wrote their own rhyming poems. They then used Canva to create their own digital copy.

19.10.23

Inspired by ‘The Varmints’ by Helen Ward, Dosbarth Clwyd spent the afternoon dissecting flowers to identify their key parts. This will lead on to future action planning around how to bring more wildlife to our school grounds.

06.11.23

The Last Bear has been leaving us feeling very inspired to make a positive difference. To start, we decided to create a piece of Whole class artwork designed to show the impact of litter on arctic animals.

08.11.23

As part of our Polar Explorer mantle, Year 3 and 4 took part in an Arctic Training Programme, designed to test our agility, strength and determination. We all passed... we're going to the Arctic!

09.11.23 - Our Trip to Chester Zoo!

10.11.23

Inspired by Help Picture and the Poppy Legion, our Dosbarth Clwyd superstars have redesigned the remembrance poppy. We focused our attention on the plastic-free aspect, alongside what the different colours represent.

17.11.23

As part of our 'Leaf' theme week, Dosbarth Clwyd created their own natural artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.

21.11.23

As part of our Polar Explorer mantle, we have been investigating the insulating effects of blubber.

23.11.23

We have been applying our area and perimeter skills to design Arctic base camps as part of our Polar Explorer mantle.

15.12.23

19.12.23

Amazing atmospheric artwork inspired by Jen Aranyi.

We LOVED creating these with Mrs Underwood and can’t wait to transform them into 2024 calendars. Year 3/4 - you are superstars!

10.01.24

The first lesson of our Archaeology topic and we’re hooked! In role, we uncovered archaeological discoveries that helped us to learn more about our local past.

11.01.24

After conducting our own archaeological dig of the school grounds, we analysed and organised our findings using a database.
