Learning Logs at Ysgol Sychdyn
Homework
We are introducing a different approach to homework at Ysgol Sychdyn, called Learning Logs, which is more closely aligned to the new Curriculum for Wales and its four purposes.
What is a Learning Log?
A learning log is a way for children to record their knowledge and understanding in whichever way suits them best, allowing them to take control of their learning.
As Learning Logs are personalised there is no right or wrong way to approach a task.
Learning Logs are a journal for children to record their knowledge and understanding about topics that they are covering in the classroom, in whatever way they feel is most helpful. Children may use pictures, writing, photographs, labelled diagrams, pop up pictures, fold away flaps, to present their work.
Learning Log activities are intended to be as open ended as possible, not prescriptive, allowing the children to reflect on their learning in class in a creative way and for the children to make their own decisions on how to collect, record and present their homework.
Each log is a unique record of your child’s thinking and learning which encourages them to be creative in the way they approach homework. A task may look like this:

This is not an exhaustive list and there are no boundaries for what children could choose to include.
